The itinerary that was made for us to include all of the areas that we wanted to visit was excellent, you did a great job in fitting a lot into a 3 week period....... There was no one stand out highlight of our trip as we enjoyed every place we visited and they were all individually exciting and quite different. If we had to pick one it would be a toss up between Easter Island and Machu Picchu. Thank you for all of the organization that went into our trip, we did not have to worry about any aspect other than to turn up at the allotted time and someone would look after every detail for us.
Many Thanks
Machu Picchu Tour
Machu Picchu, the breathtaking Lost City of the Incas, is located on a high, lush saddle between high mountains in the Peruvian Andes. Terraced slopes drop down to the Urubamba River, which gushes around a hairpin bend far below the citadel. Since it was re-discovery by Hiram Bingham in 1911, a whole host of theories as to its historical significance have emerged. What is in no doubt is how finely preserved the site is, it was not discovered by the Spanish conquistadors nor disturbed by looters since it was abandoned.
You will enjoy either a small group tour of Machu Picchu, or a private one if required, led by a qualified English speaking guide before having some free time to explore the site by yourselves. Your guide will lead you on a full exploration of the ruins - staircases, terraces, temples, palaces, towers, fountains and the famous sundial. If you decide to stay overnight in Aguas Calientes you will be able to revisit the site on your second day, either with or without a guide.
In your free time you can enjoy the site at your leisure and see some of the sites that are not included in the standard sightseeing tour, such as the Sun Gate and the Hanging Inca Bridge.
You may also have an opportunity to climb Huayna Picchu, the spectacualr mountain that overlooks Machu Picchu from the rear side. The views from here are stunning and give you superb photo opportunities. Only 400 people a day are allowed up this mountain at the rear of Machu Picchu so get here early or go up on the second day.
