More than half of the country enjoys a temperate mountain climate whilst the coastal areas are hot and humid. The northwest of the country is arid desert. Most of the rain falls in the summer between May and November. The Yucatán peninsula is very hot and humid from May to October, and there can be hurricanes in the autumn whilst cool fronts pass through in winter.
