Brazil Pantanal Tour

5-day / 4-night Pantanal adventure vacation package.

Day 1: On arrival at Campo Grande airport you will be driven by shared minibus (departure at 13.00 pm) to the Refugio Ecológico Caiman, four hours away by road. It is located on one of Brazil's largest cattle ranches covering 130,000 acres of savannah, submersible low lands and forest along the Aquiaduana River in the Southern Pantanal.

A vast wetland the size of France right in the heart of South America, the Pantanal is a region of some 230,000km2 spread across Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. The area is well known for its concentration of fauna, and due to the wide-open spaces in contrast to Amazon rainforest, the wildlife is readily visible.

Wildlife that is represented in the Pantanal includes anteater, armadillo, opossum, capivara, anaconda, giant otter, howler monkey, ocelot and jaguar. There are 300 species of birds including jabirú stork, spoonbill, toucan, and piping guan. The rainy season is from December to March and mosquitoes can be problematic. Fishing is excellent in the dry season with 230 varieties in its waters. The ranch consists of three lodges, and which one you stay at depends on availability.

Days 2-4: Daily excursions with a guide are made to observe wildlife. Excursions can include trekking on foot, horseback riding, rides in a specially adapted vehicle, by four-wheel drive, on foot and boat rides, both paddle and motor-run. After dinner, there is a short slide-show and briefing on the next day's activities.

Day 5: Transfer back to the airport/hotel at Campo Grande at 10.30am.
