The itinerary that was made for us to include all of the areas that we wanted to visit was excellent, you did a great job in fitting a lot into a 3 week period....... There was no one stand out highlight of our trip as we enjoyed every place we visited and they were all individually exciting and quite different. If we had to pick one it would be a toss up between Easter Island and Machu Picchu. Thank you for all of the organization that went into our trip, we did not have to worry about any aspect other than to turn up at the allotted time and someone would look after every detail for us.
Many Thanks
Peruvian food is probably the best in all of Latin America and is becoming more and more recognised worldwide with Peruvian restaurants being opened in many major cities such as London, New York, Tokyo etc. While you are on vacation here in Peru maybe you could try some of our recommendations which have been made by our staff and previous clients.
If you would like us to make you a reservation in any of the places listed, just send us an email and then enjoy a great meal!
Cusco
Divina Comedia. http://www.restaurantcusco.com/
This is an excellent restaurant, fairly new to the Cusco scene. The opera singing is first class and really compliments the great food and the decor. There are period style pieces of furniture and nice decorational touches and even 2 models of Dante`s inferno sunk into the floor and covered by glass. It is a great experience. The restaurant is inside the Hotel Arqueologo just up the street from the famous Hotel Monasterio.
2 Nations. www.twonationsrestaurant.com
2 Nations is an good place to have lunch on your first day in Cusco when you shouldn´t eat too much before your city tour for example. This Australian - Peruvian owned and run, rustic restaurant has good food and very reasonable prices in a very relaxed environment! They also have micro brewed beer.
Limo. Website under construction - Trip Advisor reports here!
Excellent traditional Peruvian dishes with a fusion twist plus superb fresh sushi and ceviche. This restuarant is set right on the square in a beautiful colonial building retaining many original features and a balcony overlooking the square itself. Good prices for the high quality of food and excellent service. Highly recommended for an evening meal, very romantic for a couple seated on the terrace for example. Plenty of room for larger groups too.
Maikhana Indian Restaurant - www.maikhana.net
This is great option for a cheap, great tasting lunch. The buffet option is nearly always on the menu or if not the a la carte prices are still very reasonable. Peruvian food is always superb but if you are here for 2 weeks or so then a change in cuisine is a good as a rest as they say. The food here is excellent and very authentic as the owners are from India. The restaurant has a couple of balconies with partial views of the main plaza.
Ciccolina. http://www.cicciolinacuzco.com/
One of the best places to eat in the city by the same owners as Baco. Serves high end tapas and superb Peruvian food in a very atmospheric second floor restaurant which sometimes can be very crowded, reserve early! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and apart from the excellent food they have a extensive list of wines and cocktails.
Tupananchis.
http://www.tripadvisor.es/Restaurant_Review-g294314-d1209713-Reviews-Tupananchis-Cusco.html
Fusion Andean food in a relaxed restaurant environment. Food not too expensive and very nice indeed, drinks a little pricey and sometimes the service is a little slow but you are in Peru! There are tables and sofas so you can choose to be more formal or more relaxed or even sit outside as there are gas heaters to keep you toasty. Great location in a pedestrian area with a lovely view of colonial churches.
Fallen Angel. http://www.fallenangelincusco.com/
This restaurant is high on design points, difficult to describe so you just need to go along and see, eat and drink. many of the tables you eat on are made from bathtubs filled with tropical fish with glass tops! If you are lucky enough to be in town when they have a party you must go along, they are famous all over Peru and appear on TV regularly. Try the steaks with unusual sauces, they are great.
Lima
La Rosa Nautica. http://www.larosanautica.com/rn_homeing.html
Superb seafood actually over the waves in a wooden pier-like structure. A little pricey but worth the effort for the location and the food is very good indeed. You will need to ask us for transfers to and from the restaurant as it is located 10 minutes drive from your Miraflores hotels.
Junius. http://www.junius.com.pe
Excellent place to have a buffet lunch during your sightseeing in Lima. The evening buffet is even better as there is a show of several traditional dances and music from some of the many different cultural zones around Peru. Our favorite is the tijeras (scissors) dance from the Ayacucho area of the Andes, the skill and fitness of the dancers is impressive.
La Bisteca. http://www.labisteccalima.com/index2.html
Make sure you dont have too much breakfast if you intend to eat lunch here, it is one of the biggest and most varied buffets you will ever see. This is not really a tourist restaurant and as Peruvians like to eat well and big, its is a great choice for refueling for more sightseeing. It is located in the upmarket financial district of San Isidro.
Rodrigo. http://www.restauranterodrigo.com/home.htm
Located in the heart of Miraflores, Lima this is the upmarket, trendy restaurant of the famous Peruvian Chef Rodrigo Conroy. The food is Peruvian fusion, excellent ingredients with great presentation in a designer style modern setting. Worth paying a bit more for the experience.
Huaca Puccllana. http://www.resthuacapucllana.com/
How many times have you eaten excellent food in the grounds of a 5th Century pyramid? Exactly! So try it now. The food is great and the setting even better. You can eat outside in view of the adobe pyramid with hot coals or gas heaters to ward off the chilly evening, or eat inside with the huge wine cellar. Highly recommended.
Arequipa
Zig Zag. www.zigzagrestaurant.com
Gary´s favorite place in Arequipa, he and his wife Malka eat here every time they visit the Arequipa. An evening meal for 2 or for your family reserving the window table overlooking the Church and the square is a lovely experience. The meat dishes actually cook in front of you on a oven baked stone, and the range of meats you can choose from includes Ostrich plus you have to wear a comedy bib which you can take a way as a souvenir. There are vegetarian options too and the wine is great. You cannot go wrong.
Zig Zig Creperie Crepisimo. www.crepisimo.com
Same owners as above and another top place, more for lunch really, and they have a daily fixed menu which is great value taking into account the quality of food. The restaurant is located a beautiful building on 2 levels plus there is an outside terrace where you can enjoy the sun. Very reasonable prices and great service.
Casa Andina Private Collection Restaurant.
In line with all the services of the Casa Andina Private Collection hotels, the restaurant is excellent. The hotel and restaurant itself are housed in a living museum, the place is 400 years old and used to be the city mint. The paintings and adorments are period and the impression of stepping back in time while eating excellent food is a lovely one. If you dont end up staying there with escaped to Peru, let us make a you a dinner reservation a anyway, take your camera.
Puno
Inka Bar. No web info.
Our place of choice in Puno. Nice food, trendy furniture and music, good service. The restaurant is on the main tourist, pedestrian street, Jiron Lima, so is easy to find. Local Peruvian ingredients presented in an imaginative and delicious way. You can also get good coffee and deserts a watch the world go by through the large windows onto the street.
Colors. No web info.
Next door to Inka Bar and also good food in a modernistic designed, 2 level place. Comfy sofas upstairs and a great place for snack if you are not that hungry. Take advantage of the WIFI internet if you are traveling with your laptop.
Aguas Calientes
Indio Feliz. http://www.indiofeliz.com/en/indio-feliz.html
This French / Peruvian owned restaurant serves up some of the best food in town, best described as Peruvian cuisine with French touches, served in American portions. The two-story restaurant in the center of town has a very homely feel. The four-course set menu is large and includes quiche Lorraine, sopa criolla, lemon or garlic trout, ginger chicken and apple pie. This is our favorite place in Aguas Calientes for evening meal, good atmosphere always.
Totos House.
If you are hungry at lunch time and need to recover from a long tour up at Machu Picchu, or fuel up before you go up in the afternoon, this is the place! There is a huge range of Peruvian food on offer in the buffet, the food is not as sophisticated as Indio Feliz but it gives you the chance to try lots of different Peruvian food in one sitting, make sure you havent had too much breakfast.
Sumaq Hotel Restaurant.
High end, designer food by the famous Peruvian chef Rafael Piqueras. It is a bit expensive but it is lovely food presented as a work of art. If you are staying at the hotel with Escaped to Peru you will be able to try it anyway, but even if people are staying elsewhere you can still pop along.
